First, put a little bit of mild dish detergent in a bowl with warm water.  Then, place your gold engagement or wedding ring into the soap mixture and let it soak for a few minutes. Begin to scrub your ring gently using the soft toothbrush.  Finally, take your ring out of the soapy water, rinse and dry with a soft polishing cloth.
Tips on how to clean your Silver engagement or wedding rings
There are a number of ways of cleaning silver engagement or wedding rings.
When your silver ring seems to be less shiny than it was when you first bought it, then the best way of bringing back the shine is to wash it in warm water with a mild detergent.
Toothpaste may be used to clean silver too.  Take a damp sponge or cloth and place some plain white toothpaste on it.  Rub your silver ring gently with the damp sponge or cloth.  The sponge or cloth will begin to become darker.  Once this happens, add more toothpaste and continue polishing. Finally, rinse and dry your ring with a soft polishing cloth.
Baking Soda could be used to clean difficult stains found on silver.  Baking Soda and warm water, when mixed, make a paste which can be rubbed onto silver. Take a damp sponge or cloth and place some Baking Soda paste on it.  Rub your silver ring gently with the damp sponge or cloth.  The sponge or cloth will begin to become darker.  Once this happens, add more Baking Soda paste and continue polishing. Finally, rinse and dry your ring with a soft polishing cloth.
DO NOT use rubber gloves as rubber may cause silver to rust and metal and stainless steel can damage the finish of silver.

You will need a soft, clean cloth, soft toothbrush, warm water and a mild detergent.
Follow these instructions to get rid of the supposed ‘scratches’.
Firstly, use warm water and a soft toothbrush.  If it still seems as if there are ‘scratches’, add some detergent and scrub your ring with the toothbrush.  Finally, rinse your ring with warm water and dry with a soft cloth.
